We recently read a blog article published on The Conversation which highlighted new research on why realism is the key to wellbeing. Our main finding is that it is not just outcomes that matter, but also expectations. When all other things are equal, overestimating or underestimating outcomes are both associated with lower wellbeing (rather than getting expectations ‘about right’).
Realists do best.
As we pointed out at the beginning of our latest newsletter, wishing away 2020 as a lost cause, and expecting 2021 to be a whole new ballgame is really unrealistic.
